Elyria Canyon Park Reviews

Great spot but needs better marking for parking/no cars. I am pretty nervous to go back because of the following: We just followed google maps and did not see a clear place to park. I kept going through a green gate, which was *open*, followed by sign for the park, so I kept going through the gate. Got to a little house/ranger house, saw one other car and parked near the little house. Enjoyed hiking around the grounds, then went to leave and the gate was LOCKED. As in, we came in through an open gate, then it was completely locked when we went to leave and there is no way to go a different way (it was mid-afternoon). We saw a ranger, and instead of being understanding (literally not sure how we would know that an open gate did not mean enter, when most parks have gates that are open during the day and closed at night) that it was a simple mistake, the ranger was rude and threatened to "cite me" but then "let me go." It was a simple mistake, there was no signage (except for on the gate, which we saw later as you can't see the sign if the gate is open), no "no parking" signs, and the ranger threatened to cite me instead of understanding. Maybe cite the person who left the gate open? He begrudgingly let me out but I really felt super odd. Oh, and he was not wearing a mask, and I was.

TL;DR, if you get to a dirt road because a green gate is open, stop and park somewhere else (literally not sure where? the street? there is no parking lot). Other reviews seem to note the rangers are not too nice. It's really a simple mistake and it soiled my experience of the park, which was lovely.

Strange park for sure. The trails are quite overgrown, a lot of tall weeds and overhanging branches to move out if your way. I’m sure this is a great area for those who live here but I would never come out of my way to visit here again. Once you get a little higher up the views are ok. It’s mostly disappointing that this is a pretty short walk. Note, there is no designated parking. The streets leading up are narrow and there is only street parking on one side. You are much better off going to Rio De Los Angeles, LA Historic, or Elysian.

I’m staying in an Airbnb close to Elyria Canyon park. I thought to myself I’ll just do a quick loop run to get in a good workout for the morning.

I’m happy I ran up so many Vermont mountains! That run was great! You will climb fast as you ascend to the top of the park. Check out the photos, fantastic views.

The trails don’t have a clear direction pointing to them from the way I came in, but at the bottom it’s pretty self explanatory.

If you are in the area it’s worth climbing to the top! It’s not the most magnificent view but it is beautiful.

Great small city park, yet big enough for decent hikes, lovely scenery and great location in the hills of the Mount Washington neighborhood, plenty of trees and vista locations, so green most of the year. Really a lovely Park!!

A bit of a strange and neglected area that I wouldn’t feel comfortable hiking by myself. However there are some pretty neat views and a decent trail to follow despite a very steep part I which I would not recommend for little ones. But as my friend said while we were there... it kind of feel a like it used to be one big communal backyard with all of the houses surrounding the area and abandoned artifacts.

It's a nice place for a hike not my favorite and it's not that big of an area but should still be checked out.

Very narrow trails pretty close to overgrowing on the trails lots of fox tail thorns and weeds. Not ok for my dog to walk through. Leaft within minutes ...
