So it's deceptive if you follow your GPS. We ended up going to the top of the street, and starting from the trailhead there. The path was narrow, and well shaded. There are some tight spots to navigate. It branches off, we stayed to the lower trail which slowly ascended. The last bit was pretty steep with loose dirt. We actually came out in someones back yard, but we were right above Runyon Canyon trail. It was easy to get back on the right trail, and was a great hike.

We took the night hike by full moon option. Full disclosure, there were small Coyote's around the size of a large cat. Very scared of humans. The view is one of a kind. You can see the entire coast, the entire downtown and swaths of the valley. Very surprising Panasonic view. Well worth it.

The trail starts at the top of the stairs located on the northern end of the Wattles Garden Park. As you are going up the stairs, there will be a dog park to your left. The lower portion of the trail is very eclectic, decorated over the years in a whimsical style by different people. As the trail ascends, it becomes quite narrow, with loose, sandy footing. As you gain elevation, the trail can be quite steep in places, requiring some degree of climbing. It joins with Runyon Canyon West Trail at the top, giving you several return options.

I love this hike. It’s very steep,at some points using your hands and knees to climb. Gorgeous views of Hollywood sign to DTLA all the way to the ocean. It can get crowded so I suggest going early. After all, it’s Runyon. Watch out for the cacti.

Those who want to switch up the start route on Runyon but still end up on the trail? Challenge extended. Safe, well traveled alternative starting point for the Runyonites. Intermediate to difficult.

A place of beautiful serenity with a deep history in LA's past. Bring extra water with you to help the community water newly established plants that are revitalizing the trail.

Always a funky time. Just wish other dog owners picked up after their dogs. ????
