Kang Ho Dong Baekjeong Reviews

I give Kang Ho Dong 4 stars and not 5 because of the following:

- I thought the banchan (side dishes that come included with the meal) were the bare minimum. I’ve been to places that go all out with banchan that fill up the entire table with servers being very attentive with refills.
- I was hoping for lettuce wraps and ssamjang because all the places I’ve been to offer that, but they had salad with soy dressing and another salad with spicy dressing plus rice and radish wraps, so it was a fine substitute. I actually really liked the salads. I’ve never had a rice wrap before, so that was a great experience.
- It is expensive, but I was expecting that in LA.
- The wait was pretty long, about an hour. We originally were planning to go to Quarters, but it was a two hour wait, so we just went to Lang Ho Dong. I’m glad we went to Kang Ho Dong though.

- The quality of meat is superb.
- The employees cook the meat for you. Some people might not like that, but I liked it. It reminded me of Benihana. It’s like a free cooking show!
- The service was super fast. All the banchan and water were already set up by the time we got the table.
- The ambiance is very fun. There’s loud mainstream party music.

Other notes:
The quality of meat was absolutely delicious! It was so tender, juicy, and mouth watering. The worker who cooked our meat cooked it perfectly. I was not used to the employees cooking the meat for us, but I actually like that better than us cooking it ourselves.

I’m from Chicago, so this restaurant was very refreshing because it’s so different than what I’m used to. In Chicago, all kbbq places are very traditional, mom and pop stores. Loud hip EDM is not being blasted like it was at Kang Ho Dong, but I loved it. It was a vibe! I was with a few friends and drinking, so it was super fun!

We got the large beef combo for 4 people and it was plenty of food for us. We were all stuffed. The kimchi jigae was also delicious! If you and your party eat a lot, the quantity might not be enough.

Worth every penny and star! Baekjeong delivered the authentic Korean bbq experience with amazing meat quality, the right levels of marination, great service and price. My only carp was if they had made their interior a bit more brighter (you feel like you're eating in a run-down "factory").

Obviously, the key to Baekjeong is to go early when they open. They don't take reservations and there was a huge line by the time we left so I can see how things can deteriorate as the place gets busy, especially when you rely on servers to cook the meat for you.

We had the beef combo and everything was flavorful and wonderful. The ribs, the briskets, and the kalbi. And we also ordered the raw beef which again hit the spot in the right ways. The Kimchi stew was also flavorful. Everything here was in line with its reputation and fame. We'll definitely be returning!

I read a few less than stellar reviews, but heard such great things. We checked it out anyway and was not disappointed. We had a good time, good service, and good food. Even cheap parking.

We paid about $135 dollars for 3 of us. Was not cheap! But very good.

One of the very best spots to enjoy Korean BBQ! The salad is bottomless and SO GOOD! Try as much meat as possible to get the full experience.

The cook the meat right there in front of you! All of the different meats need to be cooked differently so they cook them one by one and you enjoy them all separately. You must try the sauce they give you to dip the meat into...it is so unique and delicious!

I would consider this a MUST try when in LA. Make reservations if possible. There is a boutique and convenience store right next door so if you have to wait, that is a fun way to kill time.

Let’s start with the good. The flavor and authenticity of the dishes were spot on. Speaking from experience, the food was flavorful and tasted like what my mom would make at home. Unlike my mother however, this restaurant did not care if I had a good time eating. The service was nonexistent, to the point where my friend had to cook the meat. We asked 3 times for more side dishes before they were delivered with less than what we started with. I don’t blame the waiter, but rather the system he’s working under. The restaurant filled out the outdoor seating before indoor, and we waited 20 minutes despite the restaurant being empty. For the prices they charge, I did not get my money’s worth eating here. What an unfortunate dining experience.

A must try Korean BBQ restaurant if you visit Los Angeles. The staff will cook the meat in perfect condition, and their secret sauce is simply amazing, elevating everything to the next level, even the vegetables!

The brisket is always amazing, but the marinated beef and the short rib are not worth it; the quality isn’t consistent. They only give you one order of steamed egg outside, so if you’re vaccinated sitting inside is a better option. Side dishes and salad are fantastic. Pricey, but delicious!

Okay so let's begin with prices, yes it can be pricey unless you play it smart. For 3 people we ordered the meal they had for $75 which was pretty good, but we also added on more things which got us to $140, but it was delicious.

Now for food, we had the beef brisket, Spicy pork belly, kimchi fried rice, glass noodles, pork jowl and etc. What stood out the most and honestly wish I ordered more of was the spicy pork belly, it was spicy but sooo good. The beef brisket was nice and thin and flavorful too. The glass noodles has a nice texture, but wasn't as flavorful (still enjoyable). The item i wouldn't order again was the kimchi fried rice, it had too much of an overpowering flavor. I loved how they cooked the food and we pretty much just ate when they would finish. I wish they had chicken though, it would've been my go-to if they did.

The wait can be crazy long! We waited for about 1.5 hours (original estimate was 2 hours) for a party of 2 on a Saturday night. However, if you don't mind waiting a few hours then it may be worth it. We ended up drinking sake at another restaurant while waiting for this one so it wasn't too bad. Time flies when you're tipsy!

Anyways, the food quality here is really good! They have your table ready to go with the fire on and sides ready to eat. We went with the beef servings for 2-3 and got some short ribs. Super delicious and very tender and tasty. The waiter will do the preparations of the meat so just sit back and enjoy!

It's in a plaza complex and Quarters is nearby too. I'd check in at both and then go to whichever one is ready for you first. KBBQ in LA is definitely a must and this one is worth a try if you're willing to wait!

Kang ho-dong is one of the mavericks of Ktown. Back when ACYE restaurants were popping up on every street corner, Kang ho-dong went the other way and brought us back to the traditional kbbq scene. Now, ACYE restaurants are sparse and few, and most kbbq restaurants have adopted Kang ho-dong's business model of high quality meat at reasonable prices.
The wait is usually an hour long, but it's definitely worth it due to the meat quality and the environment. All of the banchans are delicious and if you get a meat combo, it comes with either kimchi stew or fermented bean stew.
During my most recent visit, my family and I got the large beef combo and a few dongchimi gooksu's to share. All the meat was excellent, but the dongchimi here could not compare to Corner Place's dongchimi so I don't think I'll be getting it again.
