Kapoors Akbar Indian Restaurant Reviews

Good Indian food, Indian locals eat there, too, which is a good sign. My Tandoori salmon dish was very tasty with a crusty baked skin and lots of sweet fried onions. Basmati rice and white wine rounded out the meal. The ambiance of the restaurant leaves something to be desired. Tables are pretty bare, and the entrance area looks a bit untidy. First, I thought the place was closed down. The entrance door is around a corner and is hardly noticeable. I looked almost shuttered to me. The server was very pleasant and speedy. Overall, though, a nice dining experience.

The food and service were both fantastic! I wish I had snapped a few photos but when my family and I sat down to eat we were famished and ate it all pretty quickly. We had a crab coconut curry and the Masala, along with an appetizer, the name of which escapes me (had a mango sauce) Everything was great. The server was very nice and attentive. I think once you walk in you know it's going to be good, the aroma is amazing, and you're quickly greeted by a friendly face.

Cheese naan is amazing, lamb briyani is good, chicken tamateer is the best dish here!

Oct 2021 Update: visited the restaurant again post pandemic lockdown for dinner, they added some new dishes. My new favorite blue crab curry. It was Yumm!!

Love the flavors. Went there for lunch and loved the food options. Had chicken tamattar lunch option and loved it. Portions are huge even for lunch :)

We ordered a takeout for dinner from Kapoor's Akbar Indian Restaurant. The lady at the reception taking the order was really helpful and smiling.

We ordered a tandoori chicken masala, chilean sea bass, bhindi and naan. I would say that the Chilean sea bass was expensive for the quantity and the taste. Other things were fine.

The restaurant was clean, well managed, and everyone was wearing masks. They did offer some discounts for ordering online which we did not know before we placed the order.

Overall, I would not say that I would highly recommend it but it's fine for a general take out. As compared to the quality of food, I would consider it to be a bit on the pricier side.

New addition to the restaurant offering is a unique "Indian street food menu" under the name Kati Roll Company -- for pick up, delivery and eat in the outside patio. The east-west coast competition Indian equivalent of "crust", the Kati has a more flaky, lighter crust and the Frankie a more substantial and doughy one out of naan. Available in bowls as well. We are always surprised that the DTLA place (with free parking inside the building!!) doesn't do SRO business.
Indian food updated by a third generation chef in a colorful, small place - "heat" not spiky peppers warm this food.

Small portions. High prices that are nowhere near worth the value you will pay. Go elsewhere in town to enjoy good curry dishes. No rice with the main dishes. Poor quality. Didn't follow my request for instructions. Not a single good remark I can think of regarding this place.

I was fortunate to be treated to a marvelous meal last night at Kapoor's Akbar Indian Restaurant in downtown LA. Thanks so much to the DTLA Weekly for the good times ????. The food and the service were outstanding and I will be back soon ????

Wow what a surprising find! This place had enticed us teasingly with its misleading open sign for a long time. Downtown has no decent Indian restaurants, and so we (Brahma Loca and I) have been very ready for this to open. On the way to regular pho place for lunch in Chinatown, we saw people coming out, so we screeched to a stop.

The service was outstanding, the woman in the pomaded duck tail was very obliging and informative. The menu was very peculiar in a good way: it had all the regular northern Indian stuff, but it also had really odd things like pork vindaloo and blue crab curry, too. Of course that's what we got, along with sweet nan. It came up VERY fast and was VERY good, and spicy in that really good Indian way where you feel blissfully Serene afterwards. Nearly enlightened, in fact. We might have even acheived mohksa. We will certainly return and I highly recommend it.

PS I was fascinated to see that they had little USB chargers at the table

Great amazing flavor from a restaurant that has been around in Pasadena for 20 years and now recently moved to this dtla location. Free easy parking in a garage. Great friendly service. Good mix of some fusion items (lamb sliders and dirty fries) with more traditional dishes. I will be back.
