Little Tokyo’s best “hidden gem” and maybe I should keep this place a secret but I can’t help but share. I love izakaya and I also love an intimate space. Reservations are email only rn and you make it two weeks in advance. The food is spectacular and the whole experience feels so special. Bring someone you love, eat good food, and talk all night.

Hmm Kinjiro! Located in the Honda Plaza, with indoor and outdoor seating. This is my go-to for out of town friends (if I can secure a reservation).

What I love and also sometimes hate about Kinjiro is that it is owner-ran, the one and only Jun takes reservations, seats, takes orders, serves, and does basically everything in between. It’s intimate because there are only a certain number of seatings and you have to reach out to Jun in advance to make the reservations.

But why do I take my friends here? The food is amazing. Literally everything on the menu is amazing. My favorite is the beef tongue (it’s staying on the menu forever because it’s been on there since the first time I discovered Kinjiro… 2015?) and the truffle udon ♥️ the oysters were bomb. The MACKERAL! Not for everyone and it paired well with the sake.

Honestly can’t really go wrong here… and if you have space get their dessert!

It’s a wonderful experience. My roommate found this little gem in little Tokyo and it didn’t disappoint us at all!
It’s a neat small space with about five tables, so yes, you definitely wanna make a reservation ahead of time. Reservations work smoothly via emails with them. They respond quickly.
Though I do wish they will be available on OpenTable or Resy soon, or via Google Maps :)

We came for the famous Truffle Mushroom Creamy Udon, it’s SO GOOD.

I will definitely come back again to try out other things :)

The service is very nice and they are friendly.
Highly recommended:)

2nd visit in 3 years post COVID, and my rating is still a 5 star. Staff, food quality, timing, flavor, and price point were excellent. We loved every dish: duck, chicken, short ribs, black cod, salmon; even the curry rice! A must visit and highly recommended.

There’s a reason why one needs to book weeks in advance via email. The service was really nonpareil - cool, polite, but attentive to the last detail, as if one’s in Japan. Try the sparkling sake then order freely, as everything on the menu is guaranteed to be good :)

* hamahama oysters - I still relish their freshness and the bursting umami
* cold tofu - really brought forth the essence of tofu-ness
* soft crab tempura - very satisfying
* grilled Japanese eel & salmon ochazuke - for sure, outstanding
* black sesame mousse - the dessert you want to end a wonderful meal with

This is definitely a nicer dining experience and the menu items are not cheap - nor should they be. My experience here was probably the beat food I’ve had all year. Our server was super helpful in our menu selections and had some delicious recommendations!????

I tried a couple items from each part of the menu and none disappointed.

The truffle and organic udon was probably the crescendo of the evening but the salad and hot plates leading up to it were all carefully crafted and delicious!

I also highly recommend sampling several of the sake choices throughout the meal. Plum sake is to die for.

This place totally changed my mind to Japanese food. Very warm place. I like the food and service here very much. The food is very delicate, you should try beef tongue

The food here is very very good. It comes at a premium price point. For me, when food is expensive, the distinction between 4 and 5 stars is if the food is very good food or if the food is excellent. I'd consider this restaurant very good. The menu has a variety of small dishes meant to share. The seafood is delicious, which the uni, scallop, and crab dish being my favorite. The beef was a close second. Definitely worth trying, and there will be some memorable dishes, but not quite exceptional.

The food is good and the service is outstanding. I think it's a little bit pricey for what they offer, and I am taking one star off for disproportionate pricing. Like they should have real wasabi for this price point. But I haven't tried everything on their menu. Sushi was good. The octopus was a little bit spicy. Beef bowl was comforting.
