Amazing gem of a place. Fancy fun! Classy French restaurant decorated in yesteryear grandeur. The New York steak is fabulous served with soup du jour, wedge salad and bread. Old school waiters serve you dressed in tuxes with the utmost dignity.

I live in the neighborhood and finally decided to try this restaurant! I’m glad I did. The building is stuck in time and I mean that in the nicest way. The service is solid, efficient and everybody is genuinely nice. The food was delicious. It’s exactly what I wanted it to taste like. The drinks are strong and for their portion sizes, very affordable. Looking forward to trying all the specials.

Ended up here by chance after struggling to find a restaurant that could seat six people on short notice on a Saturday night. Ended up having the best time here! Our server, Precious, was amazing. Drinks and food were all on point. Can’t believe I haven’t been here sooner.

First timer in this place tonight and after 25 years living in LA I finally went to this restaurant and let me tell the food is actually good and tasty, the prices are actually not to bad too, the staff is very nice and very friendly.
I totally recommend this place to family and friends the only thing I didn't like it was the noise, is a little bit to loud but I guess because I went in the rush hours on a Friday night?
I will try again definitely but another time and day that is not actually to busy and loud.

Family owned and founded in 1927 it’s been serving LA diners for generations. I would classify it as a bistro style and is certainly more casual and less expensive than many of the other French restaurants close by. While dining I overheard that there are plans to buy this current location by a developer to add housing and would most likely happen this year or next but I am unsure if that is true or not. They have a giant parking lot to the side and behind of the restaurant so parking is never a problem. The restaurant interior (also the street facing exterior) could use some sprucing up though as it looks like it has been opened for as long as it is.

I started off with the French Onion soup and it was honestly really good. It was done in the classic style and I would definitely order it again. For my entrée I chose the Short Ribs and they were pretty good. I liked how tender the meat was and the addition of pearl onions was a bonus. It was a very hearty meal and would be especially good for cold weather.

Overall I would recommend it to any fan of French food or anyone looking for a nice casual meal. It is not an anniversary, birthday, or important work dinner location however. Really hope I am incorrect that they will be closing this location because I plan to visit again and even if they move I will certainly try that new location as well.

As a member of Los Angeles Conservancy, and because COVID has slowly closed down some of my favourite restaurants and businesses, I make every attempt to support what is termed in Los Angeles as a "legacy business".

Taix has a history in Echo Park community, as it is one of the only fine dining restaurants in the area. This family owned and operated restaurant roots are a location in Downtown Los Angeles before moving to its current location in Echo Park; total time open is 60 years. In Los Angeles that is something to be celebrated. Last year, there was a movement to close this business, aiming to use the space for apartments and other businesses - preserving only the Neon signs and basic architecture on that side of the building. The fate has not yet been determined, so it is continuing to operate during pandemic, where the rules are constantly changing, and can be a challenge for owners to keep up.

That being said, we decided for Christmas Eve to support a legacy business. The menu for Christmas Eve was paired down from the usual traditional French dishes served. However, the French influence was quite evident throughout in the tapestry booths, French cabinetwork, on this night a Lighted Eiffel Tower, Paris tributes and other paintings and art reflecting French culture and the 11-12 jesters strategically placed in dining areas and check in area and lounge.

We arrived a little early, and had no issue being seated immediately. There was a nice ambiance of families and friends celebrating the holiday, Our server was friendly, had a fantastic sense of humor and made very attempt to accommodate my husband's cocktail requests. Unfortunately, they were unable to make a proper Brandy Alexander, and they did not have Galliano. Eventually my husband chose a "normal" drink, and enjoyed it with his dinner. I was surprised that a French restaurant did not have French Champagne, so I opted for Prosecco instead.

We quite enjoyed our Escargot appetizer. It had the perfect blend of butter, garlic and herbs, was tender and paired quite well with the warm baked bread for dipping.

Our entrees were good. I chose Salmon with broccoli and carrots, my husband chose Pork Loin. It was filling and cooked to order. For dessert we choose Creme Brulee and Peach Tart. The creme brulee was okay - it was not presented with fresh fruit topping or whipped cream, and had burnt taste. My husband enjoyed his peach tart, which was dusted generously with powdered sugar, it rested on a tasty caramel sauce.

Despite the good service and ambience, I felt like something was missing from the meal. The presentation was good, but it seemed like there should have been more. I am not sure whether it was result of being short staffed, a limited menu or other factors. On other occasions during COVID when indoor dining was closed and we have chosen curbside service, the food was excellent.

So I will conclude this review with the thought that it fell short on this dinner, but we will visit again for lunch or another time when we are able to order from the full menu. There are several choices we have not tried yet, so I will reserve the right to revise this review when we have revisited this historical legacy business.

COVID protocols are in place here. We were seated in a booth, which allowed for the social distance rule. We were not asked for our vaccination card but had it in our possession. All servers and staff wore masks, and most patrons were wearing masks when they were not enjoying a meal or drink. Our reservation was a little outside of peak dining times, and we were told there wee several large party cancellations, so it was not overcrowded.

This place is special!!! When you walk in your feel as if you’ve gone back in time to a different era of class… the service is great, the wine list is great, and the food tastes fantastic!! Also the price of everything is very reasonable, a whole meal with a vintage bottle was just over $100. Will be back soon

Overall, we had such a great time dining there! The food was delicious and the service was superb. Our waiter was super friendly and attentive (we forgot his name, but he wore a beret). We tried their escargot, which was to die for! We also had their lamb chop and steak and they were cooked perfectly!

Our first time here! Service was great! Food was delicious! We all loved our steaks, soups, and salads! My mom loves French restaurants, so this was our choice for her birthday! Even my son loved his spaghetti.
