Great experience all around, my 15 year old son had a great time, the instructor was fantastic and he was up on the board quite a few times. All the instructors were really friendly and it was a great way to spend the morning. Thanks for a great memory.

Ryan was INCREDIBLE! Feel so grateful to have had him as our instructor. Came with a few girlfriends for our first surf lesson and had the absolute best time. We all stood up and had a blast. 10/10 request Ryan. ???? Thanks to the Whole Kapowui team, such a great experience!

Surfing with Kapowui was a blast. My instructor, Claudio, gave through instructions and was extremely well taught. Thanks to him, I was able to successfully catch a ton of waves and get an amazing workout even though it was just my third time surfing! The business is extremely well run and I was impressed that when I indicated that I was deaf and wouldn’t be able to hear in the water that they came up with signs for in water for communication and then proceeded to educate all of the other instructors on procedures with dealing with deaf customer. Even though I’m on the other coast, I will most certainly be returning! 6 out of 5 stars and highly recommend!

Liam was awesome!!! Came from South Africa to the states to teach, and did a wonderful job. This was a great experience front to back. He was very professional and excited throughout the lesson. Super encouraging and worked hard to make it fun and a great time. Recommend two hours for beginners to get fully oriented and have success. The conditions were beautiful and not overcrowded. Kapowui gave us great memories for a first time out. Highlight of the vacation!

Incredible experience. I was looking for a surf lesson for my 15 year old nephew who was visiting from Philadelphia & myself. I did a quick Google search and was tempted to go with a few other companies but in the back of my head I kept asking "What is that yellow van in Ocean Park?". For some reason I couldn't imagine doing the lesson anywhere else. I eventually came across Kapowui's website and connected via phone. The woman who scheduled the lesson was super accommodating and got us scheduled for our desired lesson time. When it was time to take the lesson Martin got us fitted in appropriate wetsuits and was very welcoming. Our instructor, Todd, was thorough yet succinct and offered feedback in a positive way which was easy to apply. By the end of the lesson my nephew and I were standing on our boards riding waves. I seriously cannot thank Todd and Kapowui enough for such a formative experience for my nephew. I'm sure his world has been expanded as a result.

Nick was an awesome instructor he made us feel super comfortable and we had a great time out there if you are hesitant do it you won’t regret it! We love Kapowui !

An overall incredible learning and surfing experience! I can't imagine a better place to take a first lesson or improve your skills in a welcoming environment. Nick was a phenomenal instructor with so much knowledge to share about every aspect of surfing. His detailed and thoughtful feedback, along with his infectious enthusiasm for the sport and general kindness, made for an unbeatable combination. I took four lessons while in town, and it was consistently an amazing way to start my day! Kapowui really is the best in the business, and I'm already planning to come back next time I'm in LA.

Tyler was amazing. He made me feel so comfortable. Very easy conversation waiting for waves. I have been a problem surfer - many lessons with little luck. FINALLY I found a good teacher and a good business where I can return again and again when I’m in LA. The only downside was they didn’t have beanies I could purchase.

It was the best surf class!! I recommend to anyone who would like to try surfing or just want to have a great experience.
I took a group class with a friend, and it was around 5 people for one group.
Depending on our past experience and preference we got a different size board.
Ryan was so encouraging, careful, and helpful. He guided everyone in the group one by one, and gave feedbacks with details on previous attempt. It helped me to practice what I need to improve on. I felt comfortable being in the ocean and I was able to stand up on the board????????????
I loved the wet suit too!
It was clean, dry, no damages, and no weird smell at all. They had various sizes and found me the one that would fit perfectly.
Everyone in Kapowui surf class was friendly and I had a great time.

Wow, wow, wow. These reviews are spot on, this is the spot.
Came here with a little bit of experience with other lessons and brought my boyfriend for his first ever lesson.
Nick was by far the greatest instructor I have ever had. A Santa Monica native, there is just no substitute for how experienced Nick is, on top of his very uplifting and encouraging spirit, to make him the instructor in the best surf school in the business.
He made us feel proud of our progress, and offered an incredible amount of detailed, yet simple to understand instructions for our best success. We both had multiple great rides, and his notes were always spot on.
Not to mention I loved the wetsuit they had me in! Brand new with a second skin, I’ve never been more comfortable.
So worth the value; they clearly have developed a business interested in watching their students become life long lovers of the sport.
